Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer

Question: Looking to upgrade both my forehand and backhand rubber. I like chopping and backhand play. What rubbers do you suggest? Price is not an issue. If I buy an expensive rubber, how do I maintain it? Answer:

This Ask the Experts question was answered by Lady Ruano. She is a coach at the Broward Table Tennis Club in Davie, Florida. Coach Ruano’s response is as follows:

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for your inquiry.

From what you describe of your way of playing, I consider that you can replace your backhand rubber with Tackiness Chop II 1.9 mm, which is an advanced version of the one you currently use. You will have a better spin on the ball.  For your forehand, if you want to increase the spin on the ball a little, making your backspin stronger, I recommend using the Tackifire Drive 2.1 mm. This is a soft and very elastic rubber that will help you maintain control.  Do not forget to clean your rubbers before and after your practices and games with our specialized products: Spin Refresh & Rubber Care Sponge. Something that can help you take care of your rubbers is to use Adhesive Protect Film III.  Successes in your practices and competitions!

Best regards,

Lady Ruano
