Fayetteville, NC – The 7th best table tennis player in the United States, Jishan Liang, is confirmed to be among the competitors at the 2020 Butterfly Primerica Sandhills Open, hosted by the Cape Fear Table Tennis Club (CFTTC). Liang will be competing in the Olympic trials at the end of February.

Participants from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Massachusetts are currently registered to compete. “We expect about 60 players,” says Amy Karpinski, President of the CFTTC and Tournament Director. “The $3,000 in cash prizes are sure to lure the top players from the East Coast.”

The tournament is sanctioned by the United States Association of Table Tennis (USATT). Every player is ranked by the USATT and their rankings are adjusted based on their results.

The tournament will be held at Freedom Courts Sportsplex in Fayetteville.  Spectators can attend free of charge.  Following the event, tables used in the competition will be for sale at steeply discounted prices.

“This two-star event is the first step in hosting a USATT four-star event in Fayetteville in 2021,” says Karpinski.  “In 2021, we expect 200+ players from around the country.  We are grateful to the Fayetteville community and our sponsors for their support of our club and the opportunity to bring professional level table tennis competitions to Cumberland County.”
