Setting the Example for UNOSDP Youth Leadership Camps
ITTF and UN Partnership – Peace Prospects

First staged in Doha from Monday January 9th to Thursday January 19,  2012, as a pilot project at the Aspire Dome in Doha, the 17th Youth Leadership Camp, organized by the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP), commenced recently in Bradenton, USA on Sunday June 7th.

A major contributor since the very first initiative has been the International Table Tennis Federation with Leandro Olvech, the ITTF Director-Development and other Course Conductors, who have led ITTF Development Program Courses, being heavily involved.

Furthermore, through the ITTF Dream Building Program, both an example and a standard has been set for other international federations to follow.

Video
The recently published video “ITTF and UN Partnership – Peace Prospects” underlines the fact that table tennis is very much at the forefront and the efforts of those involved have been appreciated and well received.

Wilfried Lemke
Featured in the video in addition to Leandro Olvech is Germany’s Wilfried Lemke.

In April 2008, he was appointed by Ban Kimoon, the United Nations Secretary-General as the Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace with the aim of using sport as a major tool to promote peace.

Notably Wilfried Lemke was present at the Peace and Sport Cup staged in Doha in November 2011.

The Goals
The Camps are the basis of the “Youth Leadership Program” designed by the United Nations; the aim is provide young people with the knowledge required in order that they may return to their communities and promote sport in areas of deprivation.
