Cellulose Nanofiber: Carbon Speed With An All-Wood Feel

Posted on

(by Logan Rietz)

The first CNF blade hit the market at the strangest time possible.  As a result, I believe CNF blades have never been given the chance, or praise, they deserve.  Right as the world started shutting down in March of 2020, Butterfly released a remarkable new blade on the market, the Revoldia CNF.  CNF, which is short for Cellulose Nanofiber, is an ultrafine fiber obtained by breaking down plant fibers such as wood to the nanoscale (for reference, that is about 1/5,000th to 1/10,000th the thickness of a human hair).

What does this translate to?  CNF technology gives you a fast blade with exceptional feeling, the best of both worlds.  This technology advancement provides players performance that was previously unattainable with conventionally used special materials, offering high rebound while keeping vibration characteristics low.  Soft, controlled touch shots like an all-wood blade, then fast, carbon-like attacks when you transition to offense.  In short, the speed of Outerfiber with the feeling of Innerfiber.

The Revoldia is only available in the flared handle style, but when the Fan Zhendong CNF was released, it expanded the CNF options to include a straight handle option as well.  CNF plies are plant-derived and more sustainable than traditional carbon/carbon fiber plies, which is an added bonus.  Given how well they perform, we should expect to see them around for a very long time.  Butterfly-sponsored player Melanie Diaz currently uses the Revoldia CNF FL with Impartial XS and Dignics 09C, one of our World Class Pro-Lines.
