Following our July update, the Ontario Summer Games took place locally in Waterloo Region with three Showtime athletes — Adrian, Sienna, and Dakshita — participating in the table tennis competition.
Showtime athletes came away with multiple podium finishes, including silver in U18 Boys’ Doubles, bronze in U18 Girls’ Doubles, and bronze in U15 Girls’ Doubles. James also provided on-site coaching support throughout the event, making it a rewarding competition for both our athletes and the club.
Connecting with the Community at Racquet in the Square
On August 13, Showtime participated in Racquet in the Square at Cambridge Civic Square, joining a full-day community event centered around racquet sports.
The event gave us another opportunity to bring table tennis outside the club, connect with the broader community, and introduce the sport to people who may not have experienced it before.
Continuing to Build Butterfly – Arise to the Show
On August 29, we hosted another edition of Butterfly – Arise to the Show, continuing the monthly competition series as it approaches its first full year.
Alongside each tournament, we continue building the Arise competition database and using the growing match history to better understand player matchups, improve seeding, and create a more connected experience for returning players.
Improving the Tournament Experience Through Technology
August also brought further enhancements to our in-house digital scoreboard system, including closer integration with our growing Arise player database.
This reflects an area we continue to explore at Showtime: finding practical ways to connect technology with table tennis, improve the player experience, and continuously refine how our events are operated.
Preparing for the Fall Season
With summer coming to an end, August was also focused on preparing for the return of our regular fall programming and community activities.
In September, we will be hosting our Back to School event featuring kids challenge games, the Arise Challenge, a 2Pong mini tournament, Spin Master challenge, and open play, giving players of different ages and experience levels several ways to participate and enjoy the sport.
August was another rewarding month for Showtime, highlighted by a provincial medal, community outreach, continued growth of the Arise series, and ongoing improvements to the way we deliver the table tennis experience.
