Taking care of your table tennis paddle is one of the easiest ways to improve performance and make your equipment last longer. During a recent Butterfly Americas Live session, equipment specialist Logan shared several important tips every player should know.
One of the key recommendations is to always clean your rubber after playing. Dust, sweat, and dirt can reduce grip and spin over time. Using a proper rubber cleaner and a clean sponge helps maintain the rubber’s tackiness and keeps your shots consistent. Avoid using random household products or excessive water, as they may damage the rubber and blade.
Another important tip is protecting the edges of your blade with side tape. This simple addition can prevent chips and damage from accidental hits on the table, helping your blade stay in good condition for much longer.
Storage also matters. Players should avoid leaving paddles in extremely hot or cold places, such as inside a car or garage. Keeping the paddle in a case and in a climate-controlled environment helps preserve both the rubber and the wood.
Logan also explained that players should change their rubber depending on how often they play. If the rubber no longer grips the ball properly or the ball slides off during loops, it may be time for a replacement.
Taking care of your equipment means taking care of your game. Small habits can make a big difference in performance and durability.
