Darko Jorgic had a strong Semifinal performance today at the Europe Top 16 Cup in Montreux, Switzerland. His 3-1 win this morning over Benedikt Duda punched his ticket to the Finals. The other Semifinal pitted brother versus brother as Alexis Lebrun won the first game 11-9, and then carried that momentum through for a 3-0 win.
Both Darko Jorgic and Alexis Lebrun have had great success in this event, and despite neither being the top seed, it wasn’t a big surprise that they both made deep runs. Jorgic won this event in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Alexis won last year, and after today’s performance has started a winning streak of his own. Alexis Lebrun won the first two games, and traded the final two games for the 3-1 win – successfully defending the title he won a year ago.
On the women’s side, Germany’s Sabine Winter was the top seed, and she performed up to those expectations. She defeated Xiaona Shan 3-0, topped Maria Xiao 3-1, and then dominated Ying Han 3-0 in the Semifinals. Once in the Final, it was a truly dominating performance from start to finish, defeating Bernadette Szocs 11-4, 11-4, 11-4 for the 3-0 win.
