2018 WINTER TWO-PERSON TEAMS TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
Our annual Winter Two-Person Teams tournament has always been a fun way to start off our tournament season. A combination of singles and doubles, as well as the camaraderie involved in the Teams format, makes for great matches as well as a ton of fun. Past winners of the Open Division include Ruichao Chen/Nathan Hsu, Ruichao Chen/Yu Di, and Ruichao Chen/Jishan Liang. The biggest name currently in the field is 2016 Cary Cup Champion Bohan Zhang (USATT 2718).

For players interested in competing, there is always the question of how your team should be comprised. Should you get two equally leveled players in the hopes that you can beat the lower players and steal the doubles match? Do you go with a lower player and a higher player, banking on the higher rated player winning all their matches and then letting it all ride on the doubles match? No matter which way you go, the doubles matches are crucial. They don’t affect ratings, but they more often than not determine the team that advances victorious.

With the tournament just over a week away, players still have a little time to enter. Will Ruichao Chen return in hopes to lift the trophy for a 4th consecutive time? Will the home team of Rachid El Boubou and Yu Di give Bohan and his partner Jonathan Qin more than they can handle? Many questions remain, but one thing is for certain. The 2018 Triangle Winter Two-Person Teams Tournament will be entertaining for all, players and spectators alike.
