The International Awards 2024, organized by the Sri Lanka Foundation, unfolded with grandeur at the Sheraton Universal Hotel Grand Ballroom on Sunday, April 21st. Among the fifteen distinguished awardees celebrated for their exceptional contributions across various fields, one standout talent garnered attention for her remarkable achievements in the realm of table tennis: Tiana Kameel Piyadasa.

Born in Pasadena, California, to proud Sri Lankan parents, Thilina Piyadasa and Rifkha Kameel, Tiana’s journey into the world of table tennis began within her family’s legacy. With her father, a former Sri Lankan national champion and current Team USA coach, and her mother, a former national player herself, Tiana inherited a passion and talent for the sport. Even her older sister, Tashiya, boasts national champion credentials, making table tennis an integral part of their familial bond.

At just ten years old, Tiana has already etched her name in the history of table tennis. Remarkably, at the tender age of eight, she became the youngest player to represent the USA National Table Tennis Team in international competition, securing two silver and two bronze medals. Currently a member of the USA National team, Tiana’s prowess was further showcased at the 2023 National Table Tennis Championship, where she clinched 2nd place in the U13 girls singles and 3rd place in the U11 girls singles categories, a testament to her skill and determination.

The Sri Lanka Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to Tiana Kameel Piyadasa for her exceptional contributions to the world of table tennis. In a family where the sport runs deep, Tiana’s luminous talent shines brightly, illuminating a path of inspiration for aspiring athletes worldwide.

As the International Awards continue to honor the outstanding achievements of the Sri Lankan diaspora, Tiana’s remarkable journey serves as a beacon of hope and determination, embodying the spirit of excellence that defines this esteemed event.
