Jessie Xu Triumphs Again: Highlights from the 2024 Canada Pan Am Youth Selection Tournament.

The 2024 Canada Pan Am Youth Selection Tournament for U19 and U15 categories unfolded from April 26 to 28 in Mississauga, Ontario. This event attracted Canada’s finest young talents, all competing for a chance to secure a top-three position and represent their country at the upcoming Pan Am Youth Championship in Lima, Peru, scheduled for this summer.

The tournament adopted a format featuring two groups, with player rankings determining positions through the “snake system.” The top three performers from each group advanced to a progressive knock-out (PKO) round comprising six players. The top three finishers in both the U15 and U19 divisions would earn the desired spots to compete for Canada at the 2024 Pan Am Youth Championships.

Among the competitors was Jessie Xu, a standout who clinched victory in both the U15 and U19 girls’ events during last year’s Pan Am Selection in Canada. This year, Jessie faced a tough challenge in the group stage, securing only the third position. However, she showcased remarkable resilience in the knock-out phase, triumphing over her opponents in the quarterfinals and semifinals before ultimately reclaiming the top spot in the U19 event.

This marks Jessie’s second appearance in the U19 Pan Am Junior Championship, following her debut in 2022 in Rosario, Argentina.
