2017 World Cadet Challenge Final Update
Asian cadets won all the gold medals except one, well half – the Mixed Doubles by the BRA and KOR pair.
For US Players, one silver medal and two bronze medals. Not a bad effort. Here is the summary:
– Cadet Boys Team, Michael Tran and Nikhil Kumar’s NA Boys Team won the bronze medal.
– Cadet Girls Team, Amy Wang and Rachel Sung’s NA Girls Team won the silver medal. Swathi Giri’s Hopes Girls Team finished fifth.
– Cadet Boys Singles, Michael finished 8th while Nikhil 14th.
– Cadet Girls Singles, Rachel narrowly lost to the silver medalist in the quarterfinals and finished 5th overall. Amy also lost in the quarterfinals and finished 6th. Swathi played nicely in the 17-32 position draw and finished 18th overall.
– Boys Doubles, Michael and Nikhil lost to the top seed 2-3 in the quarterfinals. Their opponent went on to win the event. Michael, unfortunately, injured during the match which also affected his performance in the singles. Hope everything is all right.
– Girls Doubles, Bronze medal for Amy and Rachel. They lost to the top seed 1-3 in the semifinals. The top seed went on to win the event. Swathi and her partner lost 1-3 in the first round. Their opponent won the silver in the event.
– Mixed Doubles, Michael and Nikhil lost in the 8’s while Amy, Rachel, and Swatch all lost in the first round.
All good things have to come to an end. However, the memories will go on. Pretty sure we will hear from these fine players soon.
