PanAm Games Update: Calderano and Diaz Win Singles, Wang/Sung Win Doubles

Puerto Rico’s Adriana Diaz needed all seven games to top Canada’s Mo Zhang in the morning Semifinal match today.  In the other half of the draw, USA’s Lily Zhang fell to Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi 0-4.  In the Final, it was Adriana Diaz taking gold with another 4-3 win ove rTakahashi.

Top seeded Hugo Calderano breezed through the day with a 4-1 win over Mexico’s Marcos Madrid in the Semifinal and a 4-0 win over Cuba’s Andy Pereira Diez.  Diez topped Canada’s Eugene Wang in their Semifinal match (leaving Wang and Madrid with Bronze).

The Doubles Finals were Tuesday evening.  TeamUSA’s Amy Wang and Rachel Sung scored Gold with a 4-3 win over Giulia and Bruna Takahashi of Brazil.  Men’s Doubles went to Cuba’s Jorge Campos and Andy Pereira who defeated Brazil’s team of Calderano and Ishiy.

Men’s and Women’s Team matches start on Thursday  – we’ll have more updates soon.
