Enjoying WTT Youth Star Contender 2023 by Patryk Zyworonek

After 2022 US Open, I had to go back to trainings because my schedule was very busy.  My first tournament in 2023 was WTT Youth Star Contender Tunis.

I felt well prepared and was confident in the group stage. In the group I had one win and one loss, the loss was to the first seeded player.  I advanced from the group and was in the round of 16. I won the first match 3:0 but it was a difficult match. In the quarterfinals I played my friend from Poland, it was a very good match in the end I came out winning 3:2. Unfortunately, I lost in the semis. I knew, I had my changes, but I did not use them. Still, I am very happy with my performance and the result. When I came back to the training camp the league matches started again. I was able to play in the second and first league. In both, divisions our team is in first and my individual stats are 25-1 in second and 3-2 in first. Next on my schedule was the Polish Qualification tournament, last qualification before Polish Championship in the Cadet category. In the group I won 4 matches and lost 1. It allowed me to advance to the round of 16.

My first match was not difficult. Next, I had to play the number 1 seed. First set I lost, but I did not give up, and I won the next three sets. In the semis I had tough opponent, it was a close match, but my determination helped, and I won this match. In the finals, I feel I played well by my opponent played better. I could not secure the win. However, I am happy with second place because I moved up in the rankings. This tournament helped me because the Polish National Team chose me to the WTT Youth Contender in Berlin and Wladyslawowo.

First, was Berlin, I was very focused from the fist point of the tournament to the last point. That is why I think I played my best tournament performance wise. I was able to compete with the Chinese National team players.  I lost 11-9 in the fifth set in the round of 16 in U-17.I played a very good match against the world number 3 in U-15. It was a very tough match but I was focused and I was fighting so I was able to secure the win. In Wladyslawowo, I also played good but I couldn’t pull the same result. I had some close matches with good player but unfortunately I wasn’t able to qualify in any event to the round of 16. In total, I am very happy with this tournament as well. I know I have to focus and prepare before my next three WTT events in April Montenegro, France and Belgium.
