USA TABLE TENNIS NAMES JÖRG BITZIGEIO NEW HIGH PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR
Former German Women’s National Team Coach to Direct
USATT’s Elite Athlete Programs
April 7, 2017 (Colorado Springs, CO) – USA Table Tennis CEO Gordon Kaye announced today that Jörg Bitzigeio has been named the new High Performance Director. Bitzigeio will oversee all of USATT’s elite athlete and coaching programs, including all National Teams, Olympic Teams, national coaching programs, and elite athlete developmental programs.
Bitzigeio was an integral part of the German Table Tennis Federation national team programs from 2005 – 2015, including serving as the Senior National Team Head Coach from 2006 – 2012. Under his guidance, German teams achieved unprecedented international success, including a bronze medal with the Women’s National Team at the 2010 ITTF World Team Championships.
“We are very fortunate to be able to attract someone of Jörg’s expertise and background at the highest levels of sport to take over our National team programs,” said Kaye. “With so many outstanding young American players achieving significant international success, Jörg is the right person at the right time to develop a program leading to international results at the adult level.  His passion and commitment to achieving success is infectious.”
Prior to joining the German Table Tennis Federation, Bitzigeio managed and coached within the German professional league system, one of the top leagues in the world.
“I am excited to be joining the USATT team and greatly look forward to leading the USATT community to develop a truly outstanding High Performance program, particularly given the high level of play in the United States at the youth level right now,” commented Bitzigeio. “This is a crucial time for USATT, and we must provide leadership in collaborating and coordinating among all levels of the system to professionalize our national programs and create opportunities to achieve greater international success.”
Bitzigeio holds multiple degrees in sports management, sports science, business administration and coaching licenses. Most recently, he served as the National Coach for Education and Training for the German Canoeing Federation which won seven medals that 2016 Olympic Games. Jörg, his wife Carina and daughter Maya, will relocate to Colorado Springs, CO in July.
“From day one in the interview process, Jörg impressed us with his professionalism and vision,” added Carl Danner, Chair of USATT’s High Performance Committee. “I know our elite athletes and coaches will appreciate his desire to take our programs to the next level and build a unified Team USA approach to excellence.”
