Congratulations 2016 USA Olympic Table Tennis Trials Winners!

Women’s Competition: There are 16 women from the USA competing for three spots on the USA team to compete in the North America Olympic Trials.  On Thursday, February 4, the 16 women compete in a single elimination tournament called Trial One.  The winner of Trial One is on the USA team. There will be a total of three trials.  On Friday, February 5, the remaining 15 compete in Trial Two in single elimination format with the winner making the USA team.  On Saturday, February 6, the final Trial Three is again a single elimination competition of 14 women with the winner joining the other two on the USA team to compete in the North America Olympic Trials.  All draws for each day are made on the preceding day.  Jiaqi Zheng from California has made the USA team by winning the 2015 US National Women’s Singles Championship.  Jennifer Wu from New Jersey has qualified for the Olympics by winning the 2015 Pan Am Games and does not need to compete in the North America Olympic Trials.  The round times are as follows:

  • Women’s Draw, Trial One, 6 pm, Wednesday, February 3
  • Women, Trial One, Thursday, February 4
    • 12:00 pm – Round of 16
    • 2:45 pm – Quarter-Finals
    • 4:45 pm – Semi -Finals
    • 7:00 pm – Finals – Winner on the USA team
    • 9:00 pm – Draw for Trial Two
  • Women, Trial Two, Friday, February 5
    • 10:00 am – Round of 16
    • 12:00 pm – Quarter-Finals
    • 2:00 pm – Semi –Finals
    • 7:00 pm – Finals – Winner on the USA team
    • 9:00 pm – Draw for Trial Three
  • Women, Trial Three, Saturday, February 6
    • 10:00 am – Round of 16
    • 12:00 pm – Quarter-Finals
    • 2:00 pm – Semi-Finals
    • 7:00 pm – Finals – Winner on the USA team

Men’s Competition: There are 63 men from the USA vying for three spots on the USA team to compete in the North America Olympic Trials.  The top eight seeds advance to the round of 16.  The remaining 55 men compete in Qualifier One on Thursday, February 4 in a single elimination format until eight players are left.  These eight are placed in the sixteenths with the top eight seeds for Men’s Trial One.  These players that made the sixteenths automatically qualify for Trials Two and Three.  Losers in Qualifier One compete in Qualifier Two also on Thursday, February 4 in a single elimination tournament with the winner earning a spot in Trials Two and Three.  The runner-up of Qualifier Two earns a spot in Trial Three.  There will be a total of three trials.  On Friday, February 5, Trial Two is played with 16 men in single elimination format with the winner making the team.  On Saturday February 6, Trial Three is again a single elimination competition of 16 men with the winner joining the other two on the USA team to compete in the North America Olympic Trials.  Yijun “Tom” Feng from Georgia has already made the USA team to compete in the North American Olympic Trials by winning the 2015 US National Men’s Singles Championship.  The round times are as follows:

    • 9:00 am, 9:30 am, & 10:00 am – Round One
    • 10:30 am & 11:00 am – Round Two
    • 11:30 am – Round Three
    • 12:00 pm – Draw for Qualifier Two
  • Men, Trial One, Thursday, February 4
    • 12:45 pm – Round of 16
    • 2:45 pm – Quarter-Finals
    • 4:45 pm – Semi-Finals
    • 8:00 pm – Final – Winner on the USA Team
    • 9:00 pm – Draw for Trial Two
  • Men, Qualifier Two, Thursday, February 4
    • 1:45 pm & 2:15 pm – Round One
    • 3:45 pm & 4:15 pm – Round Two
    • 4:45 pm – Round Three
