Barbara began writing for Butterfly North America in January of 2014, with a focus on improving the sport’s professionalism and popularity in the US. Her stories feature in-depth analyses of major events, touching personal stories of players and inspiring struggles of everyday people working to grow the sport. She has covered major US tournaments including the Aurora Cup, Cary Cup, St. Louis Open, LA Open, Badger Open and Butterfly Thanksgiving Teams Event. Barbara is also an accomplished table tennis commentator, with experience live commentating at national and international events. In 2014, she was chosen as one of three finalists world-wide for the 2014 ITTF Voice of Table Tennis Competition.
Barbara began playing table tennis at the age of 7 at the Maryland Table Tennis Center, under coach Jack Huang. At the age of 13, she traveled to Tokyo to train at the Butterfly Dohjo under a Butterfly scholarship. Between 2002-2007, Barbara, a Butterfly sponsored player, was a member of the US National Cadet and Junior Girl’s team, competing in such prestigious ITTF events as the 2004 World Cadet Challenge, and the 2005 World Junior Circuit Finals. More recently, Barbara was a member of the 2011 US World University Games contingent in ShenZhen, China. Barbara has also participated in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Trials, finishing 6th at the most recent 2012 London Olympic Team Trials.
Barbara graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in 2010 and currently resides in Chicago, IL. She has stayed involved in the local table tennis community by coaching, playing, and spreading the word of table tennis throughout the Midwest.
