
Butterfly / East Gate Open Participants

Roanoke VA - Chris O’Brian got the jump on the field, during the first Butterfly / East Gate Open Series on November 14, and took the first step in defending his title.
O’Brian, the 2009 series winner, went undefeated taking the Class A event with nine victories. O’Brian’s archrival Jim McQueen missed the tournament with a bad knee.
Local players Saju Eapen and Dean Kapsalakis finished second and third place. The biggest mover in Class A was VA Tech mining student Austin Shrewsburg who came in at 1474 and came out at 1636. Shrewsburg had three upset wins. Sam Berry was another big mover in Class A going from 1496 to 1683.
Vince Green 1668 went undefeated taking Class B after losing to Shrewsburg in the preliminary round robin. VA Tech student Travis Thurston finished second. Michael Shelton was third. The biggest mover in Class B was Carol Kapsalakis from 1096 to 1321.
The second tournament in the series is Saturday December 12th.
